Plastisol Ink - All You Need to Know

If you’ve ever dabbled with the screen printing method, you may have heard the words ‘plastisol ink’ mentioned more than a few times.

The reason for this is because plastisol ink forms the basis of most printed designs. It is an essential tool for all screen printers everywhere.

Those of you outside of the screen printing world (and textiles in general) may not have heard of plastisol ink before, and have no idea exactly what it is or how it’s different from, say, acrylic paint.

Those in it, however, know of plastisol ink and how effective it can be. It is perhaps some of the most consistent ink in the industry.
We thought it would be a good idea to provide a handy guide on not only what plastisol ink does but the different kinds we sell here at Art2Silkscreen.

What Is Plastisol Ink?

As the name implies, plastisol ink is a plastic-based ink that is most often used in silkscreen printing. It is best known for its colour consistency, especially when it comes to its accuracy.

You can use plastisol inks on both light and dark garments and pulls off half-tones and gradients exceptionally well. While not as ‘soft’ as waterbased ink, the feel of plastisol once printed does give the print more texture and can be ‘thicker’ on the garment. Also, it just prints really well onto garments. When used correctly, the consistency in each product can be seen.

In short, plastisol ink is widely used in silk screen printing because it is the ink that works best, but this is still a matter of preference.
